Cairns Birdwing Butterfly, momentarily at rest, Magnetic Island North Queensland Australia- Standard 3:2 ratio, Open Edition prints
A rare view from the top of the Cairns Birdwing butterfly. They are similar from this angle to the Richmond Birdwing butterfly which is geographically separated and smaller in wingspan. The Cairns Birdwing has a wingspan of up to 18cm. The electric vibrancy of the colouration of it’s wings are usually what brings you to spot them in the dark understory of the tropical rain forest. Once landed they usually close up these wings with the males still sporting vibrant colours of red and yellow against their black main stay on their bodies and the females a little more subdued in white and pale yellow.
These images are all wide ratio panorama with a 3:2 long edge to short edge ratio. They are printed on 280gms quality photo paper with rich permanent inks and crisp resolution across the frame.
