Starlit Horseshoe Bay with Milky Way Core, Magnetic Island Queensland - Open Edition Expanded 2:1 ratio Print
Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island, is a tranquil haven most of the time for sail boats and occasional cruisers and fishing boats. The long sweep of the bay and its gentle sandy slope form part of the huge Marine sanctuary that is the Great Barrier Reef. As such it attracts a lot of tourism and there are cafes, restaurants and bars at the centre of the beach. I had taken a few shots of the bay at night, frequently looking straight out to sea away from the bright lights of the small cafe strip. I often wondered what the more natural view of the entire beach would look like. This particular night I was out, determined to capture the Milky Way core and had set up just before 10:00pm, and closing time for bars. Hoping to minimise the impact of their lights as they closed up. Just as I’d fixed position there was a power cut!! I had no idea how long for, so I worked feverishly to capture this shot with the boat lights and masts to the right, and an arc of sand and stars emanating from the left. The Milky Way is almost showering the yachts with glittery light and the reflections shimmer across to the shoreline.
This is an open-edition print in either a lustre (semi-gloss) or matt finish.
All sizes are listed in inches with a slightly wide 2On the Eastern side of Magnetic Island there are high cliff views over the Coral Sea:1 ratio
