Lake Minewanka in winter, and in the deep of night, has a stillness about it that makes all who see her stop and hold their breath for a moment. Scarcely believing this place is real and not a dream. Crisp and clear does not do justice to the qualities of that mountain air. You can just barely perceive the draft an of angels chiffon as she goes skating across the ice platter before you. Castle like peaks surround the rim, and snow caps give way to a blanket of diamonds as far as the eye can see. It is a sight missed by most tourists that come this way, but for us it will be one of the images that will bring us back to brave the freezing temperatures again some day. Until then, and for those unable to see it at night for any reason, then this image captures and delivers a depth and feeling of eternal nature so prevalent in the Rockies like few others.
