Once an icon of Picnic Bay on the tropical Magnetic Island (Yunbenun) in Northern Queensland Australia, this life boat was the scene of many a childhood fantasy or enactment of their own “Crusoe” play for the afternoon. The stunning clear waters of the Great Barrier Reef are indeed a magnet for many, not just for Captain Cook on his circumnavigation of Australia. He named the Island “Magnetic” after the compass on The Bounty began behaving erratically as the island came into view. With ¾ of the island still a National Park, it offers some spectacular scenery. Having lived there for over ten years, I have many images and produced two books from this time. Look out for publications in the menu.
