At Low Head along the North East cliff tops the Lighthouse is one of the oldest in Tasmania. There is a steep drop from the front as the lighthouse is constructed almost on the pinnacle of the head land. The rocky face of the head only offering shelter to the most determined sea-life and seabirds such as Little Penguin. This is the view on a bright sunny day from the keeper’s cottage to the tower and his store shed. Traversing that open ground in a howling gale from the west and often as darkness falls, that would be a challenge. The light must be lit however and whilst hardships prevailed for the lighthouse servicemen and servicewomen, their dedication meant many a seafarer prevailed too.
