Humpback Whale continues a journey as old as time, despite the world we create - Open Edition Wide 3:1 ratio Print
The Humpback Whales plough through the waters of Eastern Australia annually from the cold Southern Ocean to the tranquil and balmy tropical waters off North Queensland behind the Great Barrier Reef and beyond. They pass numerous ports and cities like Townsville, seen here in the back drop, and navigate the channels cut deep in the ocean floor for shipping access. Dodging container ships that dwarf even the whales bulk. Driven by the urge to bring new life to this world in the equatorial Coral Sea near the Torres Straits. With new born calves in tow they then turn around and traverse these same waters back down south. Nurturing, teaching and protecting their young all the way back to feeding grounds off Antarctica. This journey, far older than any man has undertaken, has only just recovered for a species that sat at the brink of extinction. Perhaps we should contemplate this and remind ourselves when we come to expand, grow and enlarge our footprint on the globe.
