Baby Humpbacks have a thirst for learning new skills and the talents for breaching exemplified by their parents are among the first skills they hone. This one was clearly showing off to Mum who adores and cares for him so much. He is growing daily and gaining strength the complete a colossal journey swimming from these warm safe waters of the Tropics to the frigid currents off Antarctica rich in Krill as food for his Mum and other Adults. Ocean currents with massive swells in the far south at latitudes of 4o degrees South plus are incredibly powerful so he needs every ounce of muscle to keep up with Mum in that region and keep himself out of danger. For now though it’s “look at me!” an incredible sight to behold and one thankfully becoming a little more common as the Whale numbers bounce back from near extinction.
