The great Arboreal Forests of Canada are home to tall Larch, Birch, and various conifers, that are in their element in these cool latitudes. One common challenge for all these giants though, is to get through a snowy winter and its freezing temperatures, as young saplings. The diminutive Spruce seen here amidst a cathedral of Silver Birch, is taking a stand against winter for perhaps just the second time. With luck it will still be here for many more.
