Not all of Tassie’s waterfalls are in the midst of pristine old growth forest, indeed quite a few have formed the centre of townships just like Waratah and Waratah Falls. With a colonial history forged in mining and panning for metals, these towns developed around the “temporary” settlements of a by-gone era. Prior to European settlement they were also intrinsic to the indigenous Palawa peoples way of life and ancient song lines going back over Millenia. The view here shows how close to the main through road the falls are, yet from the road they are barely visible until you are almost through town heading toward the north west coast.
