Taking a breath: the Green Sea Turtle, Great Barrier Reef Queensland - Open Edition Standard 3:2 ratio Print

from $90.00

Green Sea Turtles live for many years, often longer than humans when they’re given the chance. The odds are stacked against them from the very start, with many failing to traverse the beach where they hatched to take that very first plunge into life giving oceans. Nomadic, and at sea for almost all their life, the females return to the very beach they left as hatchlings to lay the eggs for the next generation. The time spent living in tropical North Queensland gave me many privileges to see these, and other breeds of turtle in the wild. Indeed witness the hatching and journeys started of the youngest of these. Pictured taking a breath here, is a very mature female on her way back to the depths of the Great Barrier Reef. Her head and shell often all that is seen for moments before a deep dive and graze on the sea grass.
