Sweet Basil is an annual herb, as such it is important that it sets seed for the next generation and harvest. Delicate purple flowers with fully laden stamen as seen here, ensure they are pollinated before dispersing. The green aromatic foliage is what we use in cooking, but I believe these delicate flowers when witnessed in close-up are every bit as sweet to see.
