Explore this world in Awe - Aurora Borealis over Great Slave Lake, North West Territory, Canada - Open Edition Standard 3:2 ratio Print
The Great Slave Lake, just a little north of the town of Yellowknife in the North West Territory, is at the very edge of the Arctic Circle. As such it is ideal for observing one of natures most profound atmospheric displays - The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. This image was captured on my first trip there. I was simply stood on this frozen lake in a state of complete awe and wonder. The sky above was streaked with a green dancing ribbon of light that had shafts shooting back up through the atmosphere, magical!! The shapes were clearly so very influential on the spirit animal life of the first nations, that have lived in these regions permanently for centuries. This shot provided me with a the inspiration for more and more of the rest of that trip, in-spite of the unbelievable minus forty-four degree centigrade temperatures. It clearly resembles an Eagle gliding through its star studded sky. For context, it’s late February, deep into a northern hemisphere winter, and approximately 1:30 am. I’m buzzing with so much adrenalin and only just starting the trip!! Explore, Explore Explore our own natural world.
This is an open-edition print in either a lustre (semi-gloss) or matt finish.
