My Gear

Cameras

  • Canon EOS 5Ds
  • Untitled photo

My Cameras are all Canon and include a much loved EOS 5Ds which I predominantly use for landscape, macro and some bird photography, it's incredible resolution at 50+ megapixels never disappoints, together with the robust weather seals it has proven to be almost bullet proof. The CMOS sensor has the best colour rendition I have found for my style and of course an almost limitless supply of EF L series glass!

I have recently replaced my aged 6D with a stroll into the mirrorless world and the EOS R series R6. This has proven itself already and I have to say the AF accuracy and speed are a complete game changer, especially the eye-detect for birdlife. I am still learning what this camera can do and the unique additions to opportunity proved by the Canon mirrorless system.

Lens

  • Canon 16-35mm f4 IS L series wide angle zoom
  • Canon L Series 24-70mm f4 IS
  • Canon 100-400mm f4-f5.6 L series IS Telephoto zoom
  • Canon 100mm f2.8 L Series Macro
  • Sigma 24mm f1.4 ART series Wide angle prime
  • Macro Extension tube set

Glass:- Almost all Canon L Series; 16-35mm f4 IS L Series, 24-70mm f4 IS L Series, 100mm f2.8 L series Macro, 100-400mm f4-5.6 L Series and a Sigma Art 24mm f1.4 (for astro). I also use occasionally a Canon 1.4 Tc iii.

Accessories

  • Manfrotto 055 Carbon fibre tripod
  • Gibal head for tripod and long lens
  • Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash gun
  • Remote camera release and interval timer

I use a Manfrotto 055cXPro 3 carbon fibre Tripod and cable release for long exposures. I have added a Promaster ball-head and a Gimbal head with Sunway L Brackets on both camera bodies and never leave home without a set of extension tubes which were picked up on-line for a very reasonable price but add so much more capability to otherwise stunning Canon L glass. Lastly a rarely used but non-the-less mandatory "flash"; a Canon 580 EXii Speedlight.
